CAVE D.R.'s FITNESS & HEALTH FOR SURFING:
Chris Ward
Cave Dr:
What've you done since the injury to try and heal it
back to 100?
Chris: Well, the event in France was the first time in 6 months that I
could surf without an ankle brace. I'm finally able to surf two-hour sessions
again. It's been very frustrating because I love being in the water and I hate
having to hold back. I like to surf 5 or 6 hours a day.
Cave Dr:
So it's mostly just been surfing for you...any other
forms of therapy or activity to help the healing process?
Chris:
I'm doing this treatment called BioSync. It's a deep tissue
form of bodywork that helps the blood return to the injured area of your body.
Cave Dr: Is it painful?
Chris:
It can be for sure, but it's worth it. The results are amazing.
It's a very powerful form of therapy.
Cave Dr: Anything else?
Chris: Being as the ankle is weight-bearing, it doesn't support a lot of
activities that I'd like to do. So I'm just surfing as much as I can, getting
BioSync treatments, and then letting it rest. Also I do some stretching in
between.
Cave Dr.: So as you're leaving for the 'CT in Brazil today, how does it
feel?
Chris: This is the best I've felt since I got injured last April.
I'd say I'm about 80% and I hope to be 100% by the start of the tour next year
in March on the Goldy.
